Why buy property in Bulgaria

Reasons why you should consider buying Bulgarian property

1. Low property prices compared with other European countries.

Bulgaria has some of the lowest property prices in Europe making it an excellent opportunity for investment.

2. European Union membership.

Along with Romania, Bulgaria became a fully fledged member of the EU on the 1st January 2007 and can expect significant investment from the EU over the coming years.

3. Beautiful countryside and landscapes largely unspoiled.

Bulgaria has a varied landscape ranging from the white sandy beaches along the Black Sea coast to the three spectacularly high mountain ranges running through the central and Western parts of the country.

4. Historic towns

There are many picturesque old towns throughout Bulgaria such as Sozopol and Unesco World Heritage sites such as Nessebar on the coast and Bansko in the mountains.

5. Rural traditions

The Bulgarians are proud of their culture and traditions. On 1 March each year red and white ribbons (martenitsa) are worn by eveyone to mark the beginning of spring. Popular Folk festivals are a regular feature held in various towns throughout the country.

6. Cost of living is low

Dinner for two can cost as little as £10 including a bottle of wine. Quality hand made souveniors in the more expensive tourist areas can be picked up for less than 5lv (approx £2).

7. Open Skies Agreement

Bulgaria has signed the open skies agreement which will increase the number of Airlines flying to Bulgaria. Low cost airline Wizz Air already fly from the UK and with more expected to follow in the near future Bulgaria will become a more attractive proposition for the independant traveller.

8. Ease of access

Bulgaria is less than 3 and a half hours flight from the UK and Visa's are not required for a stay of less than 90 days.

9. Rapidly expanding tourist market

Over the last three years the number of tourist visiting Bulgaria has grown rapidly. With the entry of more low cost airlines in 2007 the popularity of Bulgaria can only continue to grow.

10. Strong economic growth

In October 2006, Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Sergei Stanishev, announced that that GDP growth was expected to be 6% by the end of 2006 and that the average GDP growth for the past several yearshad been 5%. Over the last 5 years unemployment in Bulgaria has fallen whilst average incomes have risen.

11. Stable currency

The Bulgarian currency the Lev has been pegged against the Euro since the late 1990's at a rate of 1 Euro = 1.96 Levs.

12. Favourable climate

With Mediterannean like summers and cold winters, Bulgaria is an all year round holiday destination. Average temperature Apr - Sep is a comfortable 24 degrees, with highs of 30 degrees in Jul/Aug. Cooler mountain climates create favourable conditions in summer for mountain bikers and hikers and skiers in Winter.

13. Ski, Sun, Sea and Bunkers!

As well as being blessed with white sandy beaches and plentiful snow covered pistes, Bulgaria has more recently seen the development of professionaly designed Golf courses. These promise to provide a viable alternative to Spain and Portugal.

14. Political and Social Stability

Unlike some of its Balkan neighbours Bulgaria has not experienced a period of instability through racial tension. 90% of the population is Christian Orthodox and the remaining 10% Muslim. Bulgaria joined NATO in 2004 and the EU on January 1st 2007.
